CHRISTIAN BELGAUX
New Morning in the Old World examines a volatile decade of transition in Europe. Christian Belgaux looks at how the presence of history shadows the turbulence of the present, resulting in democratic backsliding and war. New Morning in the Old World is a result of tens of field trips throughout more than 20 countries.
The history is always present in Europe. Myths, trauma, humanism, genocide, revolution, enlightenment, colonialism and democracy layers the continent’s past. This landscape appears dramatically different to each of us, and in the gap between these perceptions lies the future of Europe.
Christian Belgaux is a photographer and journalist for Morgenbladet, a national paper, where he also writes about photography. He works on documentary and artistic projects and has published several books, among them Peter Wessel Zapffe. Åpninger i landskapet(Nasjonalbiblioteket, 2024), Making a killing (Molo, 2022) and Dette året (Molo, 2021). New Morning in the Old World is out now from the Swedish publisher Journal.
